Best areas in Paphos for a car-based coastal stay

Paphos spreads its neighbourhoods along the coast road and up into the hills, and the choice between them comes down to one question: will you drive? Chlorakas, Kissonerga, Tala and Emba all assume a car for beach days and evening meals, but they differ in how much you get on foot.

Chlorakas is the most straightforward for self-catering travellers, though even here car hire is the routine cost of staying; book a rental near the shoreline if you want the beach on foot. Kissonerga rewards a car with the completed coastal path above Potima Bay, but its inland village centre sits well back from the sea, so you need wheels to see both halves in one trip.

Tala places you 8 km north of Paphos, sleeping above the coastal plain and driving down for the beach. Its central square and the climb to Agios Neofytos define a stay. Emba, a residential hill village, is cooler in summer and handy for the coast, yet has no beach or nightlife of its own and most visitors will need a car to get anywhere.

None of these areas is a stroll-everywhere base, so plan around the coast road and the hill routes.

Which Paphos base suits your trip

For self-catering with a car, Chlorakas is the obvious starting point: spread along a coast road, it makes beach access possible on foot if you book a rental near the shoreline, and puts Paphos sights and restaurants a short drive away. Kissonerga suits swim-and-stroll stops, with the coastal path above Potima Bay as the draw, while Tala is for drivers wanting a quiet village base with views over the plain. Emba offers a cooler residential hill base, handy for the coast but without a beach or nightlife in the village, so a car is essential for most visitors.
